2008 Ohio Family Health Survey Released
The 2008 Ohio Family Health Survey was released this Tuesday. The survey was conducted by Macro International and overseen by Ohio State University’s College of Medicine Government Resource Center and the Health Policy Institute of Ohio. The survey was funded by the Ohio Departments of Insurance, Job & Family Services, Health and Mental Health, the Ohio Board of Regents and Cleveland State University. Major findings include: · The uninsured rate for children fell from 5.4% in 2004 to 4% in 2008. · The percentage of children receiving job-based coverage fell from 59.5% in 2004 to 53.3% in 2008. · Uninsured rates for adults age 18-64 increased from 15% in 2004 to 17% in 2008. · Workers at companies with 49 or fewer employees had an uninsured rate of 22.7% compared to 10% for companies with 50-249 employees, 6% for companies with 250-999 employees and 4.5% for companies with over 1,000 employees. · While 99.3% of seniors have health coverage, 11.9% reported having difficulties in paying medical expenses. · With implementation of Medicare Part D, seniors without drug coverage has been reduced almost 60%, although 11.8% reported not having prescription drug coverage.
