INDIVIDUAL MARKET OPEN ENROLLEMENT STARTS JANUARY 1
Yesterday, the Ohio Department of Insurance (ODI) placed on its website toll-free telephone numbers for insurers participating in Ohio’s new open enrollment program for uninsurable Ohioans. Beginning on January 1, 2010, individuals who have been denied coverage in the individual market may qualify for coverage under Ohio’s new open enrollment program which was created in the state budget bill earlier this year. ODI estimates that the new program will eventually reduce open enrollment rates by at least 50%. According to ODI, the new open enrollment standards apply to existing open enrollment policies when the policies renew. Below is the list of the toll free numbers each participating insurer is required to maintain for open enrollment questions (Please note that numbers are not listed yet for American Medical and Life Insurance Company, Madison National Life Insurance Company, National Foundation Life Insurance Company and United American Insurance Company):
