TIME TO FOCUS ON STATE LEGISLATIVE RACES

While many of you may have had your fill of all the TV advertising and debates for the race for President, you are probably just starting to focus on the races for state representative and state senator in your area.  All 99 House seats and 16 of the 33 Senate seats are up for election this November.  The outcome of these elections could have a major impact on who controls the debate on health care and health insurance issues next year in Ohio, so make sure you take the time to get to know more about the state legislative candidates in your area. By clicking on the following link you will be lead to a web page where you can click on “Ohio Senate” and “Ohio House of Representatives” to find out about the candidates running for the Ohio Legislature.  Many of the candidates have links to their websites where you can find out additional information.  The link is:

CAHU CONDUCTS SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES FORUM

With only three weeks before the November 4th election, the Columbus Association of Health Underwriters this week (October 14) held a very successful candidates forum.   This gave CAHU the opportunity to introduce the association to the candidates and emphasize CAHU’s and OAHU’s role as a resource on health insurance issues and to promote a high risk pool as one of the health care reforms needed in the state of Ohio.

Current State Senator and candidate for Ohio’s 15th Congressional District, Steve Stivers, expressed the importance of OAHU as an informed resource on health insurance issues and announced his continuing support for a high risk pool in Ohio.  Other speakers were central Ohio candidates for seats in the Ohio House and Senate.  They were:

Danielle Blue (D) – candidate for the 16th Senate District
Marian Harris (D) & Brad Lewis (R) – candidates for the 19th House District
Nancy Garland (D) & Rep. Jim McGregor (R) – candidates for the 20th House District
Cheryl Grossman (R) – candidate for the 23rd House District
Daryl Hennessy (R) – candidate for the 25th House District
Carlton Weddington (D) – candidate for the 27th House District

Each candidate was given 6-8 minutes to speak and several were able to stay for audience questions.  The candidates were well informed and expressed their appreciation for the large number of persons in attendance.
