OHIO HIGH RISK POOL TAKES SHAPE

As we reported last week, the Ohio Department of Insurance (ODI) has selected Medical Mutual of Ohio (MMO) to operate Ohio's temporary high risk pool for those individuals uninsurable in Ohio's individual market.  The temporary pool will operate until the Exchanges are up and running in 2014.  While ODI is working with MMO to finalize its application to the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services (HHS), we do know the basic framework for the program.  Here are the highlights:

• Agents who refer an individual who is ultimately placed in the program will receive a $50 referral fee.
  
  
• The agent will be responsible for submitting a standard application form similar to the federal form.  Click here to review the federal form.

• Applications for Ohio's high risk pool will be accepted starting on August 1, 2010 with coverage starting on September 1, 2010.
