ODI SELECTS MEDICAL MUTUAL TO
OPERATE TEMPORARY HIGH RISK POOL

Last Friday, the Ohio Department of Insurance (ODI) announced that Medical Mutual of Ohio has been chosen as the non-profit insurer to operate the temporary high risk pool authorized under federal health care reform.  Ohio's share of federal funding is $152 million.  The temporary pool is to be up and running by August and will operate until the Exchanges are created in 2014.  ODI estimates that approximately 5,000 Ohioans will be able to obtain coverage through the duration of the program. NO HEALTH CARE REPEAL BALLOT ISSUE THIS YEAR

Supporters of a proposed Ohio ballot issue to stop implementation of federal health care reform have conceded that the proposal will not be on this November's General Election ballot.  The proponents would need to file 402,275 valid signatures by June 30th.  Chris Littleton of the Ohio Liberty Council  said that "we knew it was really a long shot" but went on to say that his group plans to continue circulating petitions to put the issue on the November 2011 ballot.
