Governor Strickland’s State of the State Address
This past Tuesday, Governor Strickland gave his State of the State address.  The emphasis of his speech was on job creation, encouraging new forms of energy production (wind, solar) and education.  The speech did not mention any new proposed programs relating to health care and health insurance. Senator Buehrer Elected to Leadership Position
A key supporter of free market health insurance principals has been elected Majority Whip of the Senate Republican Majority Caucus.  Senate Insurance, Commerce & Labor Committee Chair Steve Buehrer from the 1st Senate District in Northwest Ohio was elected to this post after Senator Mark Wagoner (R-Toledo) resigned from the position.  OAHU is pleased to have Senator Buehrer in this important leadership position.

Legislative Activity
Since returning from its holiday break, the Ohio Legislature has been active with committee hearings considering several health care and health insurance related bills that OAHU is tracking.  You are encouraged to review our most recent Legislative Update by clicking on this link. The Legislature has a legislative schedule that shows them being in session and having committee hearings regularly through the end of May.  It is likely that they will be in recess for most of June through the November election with session ending activity in November and December.

Mark Your Calendars – DAS April 20th
Mark your calendar to attend the Nineteenth Annual OAHU Day at the State House to be held on Tuesday, April 20, 2010.  This is an opportunity to meet with state legislators from your area and to hear the most up-to-date information on health insurance legislation and regulatory activity affecting your livelihood.  You will be receiving a DAS sign-up form and brochure in the near future.
